Plastic is a big problem in the world. You can`t walk 100 meters or there is something that does not belong in nature. When I’m out for a walk, all this crap annoys me a lot. That is why I organize plastic walks in the theme of CLEAN UP THE WORLD TOGETHER! In this way we can contribute a little bit to a better world.

Plastic is een steeds groter probleem in de wereld. Je kunt geen 100 meter lopen of er ligt wel iets wat niet in de natuur thuishoort. Als ik aan het wandelen ben erger ik me kapot aan al die rotzooi. Daarom organiseer ik plastic wandelingen in het teken van CLEAN UP THE WORLD TOGETHER! Zo kunnen we toch een klein beetje iets bijdragen aan een betere wereld.

Below you will find photos from plastic on one of the Tuamotu Islands, an Atoll / coral reef in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean in French Polynesia. My sister Ilona Kooistra and her husband Frans Veldman live here on their boat (www.zwerfcat.nl/en/index.html). I stayed with them on the boat for two and a half months. It is a paradise with crystal clear water, palm trees and lots of coconuts. When I was there I was quite shocked with what you find on plastic on some completely uninhabited islands. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take all the plastic with us on the boat, and if we had, we wouldn’t be able to put it in a bin anywhere. We could burn the plastic, but that is also very bad for the environment. Taking pictures and sharing it with you is almost all we could do. Most plastic does not come from French Polynesia itself, but from all over the world.
Hieronder vind je foto’s van plastic op één van de Tuamotueilanden, dit is een Atol- koraalrif midden in de zuidelijke Grote Oceaan in Frans-Polynesië. Mijn zus Ilona Kooistra en haar man Frans Veldman wonen hier op hun boot (www.zwerfcat.nl). Ik ben twee en een halve maand bij ze op de boot geweest. Het is er echt een paradijs met kraakhelder water, palmbomen en heel veel kokosnoten. Toen ik daar was ben ik best wel geschrokken met wat je op sommige totaal onbewoonde eilandjes vindt aan plastic. Helaas konden we op de boot niet al het plastic meenemen, en als we dat wel hadden gedaan zouden we het nergens in een afvalbak kunnen gooien. Wel zouden het kunnen verbranden maar ook dat is super slecht voor het milieu. Foto’s maken en het delen met jullie is bijna het enige wat we konden doen. Het meeste plastic komt trouwens niet uit Frans-Polynesië zelf maar van over heel de wereld.
